Pinterest has reached another milestone in the expansion of its global audience. The visual discovery and shopping platform reported 640 million monthly active users worldwide for the second quarter of 2026, the highest figure in its history.
The total was measured as of June 30, 2026, and represented an 11% increase from 578 million a year earlier. Pinterest also reported that this was its 11th consecutive quarter of double-digit year-over-year user growth.
The increase extends a multiyear period in which Pinterest has steadily expanded its audience while also generating more revenue from the people using its platform. Much of the recent user growth is coming from markets outside the United States and Canada, creating a larger international audience but also highlighting major differences in how much revenue Pinterest earns from users in different parts of the world.
A New High for Pinterest’s Audience
Pinterest entered 2026 with a record user base and continued growing during the first half of the year.
At the end of the first quarter, the company reported 631 million monthly active users, up 11% from the same period of 2025. Three months later, the figure had increased to 640 million.
The longer-term trend is clearer when comparable second-quarter figures are viewed together. Pinterest reported 465 million monthly active users in Q2 2023, followed by 522 million in Q2 2024, 578 million in Q2 2025 and 640 million in Q2 2026.
That amounts to an increase of 175 million monthly active users over three years. More importantly, the growth has continued rather than depending on a single unusually strong quarter.
Pinterest attributed the latest year-over-year increase primarily to its continuing investments in relevance and personalization. That is the company’s explanation for the growth rather than an independently established cause.
Growth Is Fastest Outside North America
Pinterest’s 640 million users are spread across three reporting regions, and the latest figures show that the fastest expansion is occurring outside its most established North American market.
In the second quarter of 2026, Pinterest reported 106 million monthly active users in the U.S. and Canada, up 4% year over year. Europe reached 157 million, an increase of 8%, while the company’s Rest of World category climbed 15% to 377 million.

A year earlier, the corresponding figures were 102 million in the U.S. and Canada, 146 million in Europe and 329 million across the Rest of World region.
The figures show that the largest part of Pinterest’s audience is now outside North America and Europe. The Rest of World category alone accounted for more than half of global monthly active users in the quarter.
Pinterest notes that its geographic figures can differ slightly when added together because of rounding. For its reporting purposes, Europe also includes Russia and Turkey.
A Larger Audience Is Also Producing More Revenue
Pinterest’s user growth has been accompanied by higher revenue.
The company generated $1.18 billion in Q2 2026 revenue, an increase of 18% from approximately $998 million in the same quarter of 2025. On a constant-currency basis, which removes the effect of changes in foreign exchange rates using prior-period exchange rates, revenue increased 17%.
Global average revenue per user, or ARPU, increased 7% to $1.86 for the quarter. Pinterest defines ARPU as revenue generated in a geography during a period divided by the average number of monthly active users in that geography during the same period. It is therefore a quarterly monetization measure rather than an annual revenue figure for an individual user.
Pinterest’s regulatory filing said Q2 revenue growth was supported by both higher average monthly active users and higher ARPU. The number of advertisements served increased 16% year over year, while the price of advertisements increased 1%.
The combination matters. Pinterest is not only reaching more users. It is also, on average, generating more revenue across its user base.
The Business Still Has a Monetization Gap
The geographic data also exposes one of the central features of Pinterest’s business. User growth and revenue generation are distributed very differently around the world.
In Q2 2026, Pinterest generated $880 million of revenue from the U.S. and Canada, despite the region accounting for 106 million monthly active users. Europe generated $213 million from 157 million users, while the Rest of World region generated $87 million from 377 million users.
The difference is especially visible in ARPU. Pinterest reported quarterly ARPU of $8.30 in the U.S. and Canada, compared with $1.35 in Europe and $0.23 in the Rest of World region.
Pinterest says these differences reflect, among other factors, the relative size and maturity of digital advertising markets across regions.
The result is a platform whose fastest-growing user markets are not yet its highest-monetizing markets. International expansion can therefore increase Pinterest’s overall scale considerably without producing the same amount of revenue per user that the company generates in the U.S. and Canada.
There has still been progress outside the company’s core North American market. Rest of World ARPU increased 21% year over year in Q2 2026, while revenue from the region increased 38%. European revenue increased 12%.
What 640 Million Monthly Active Users Measures
Pinterest’s headline user figure has a specific meaning.
The company defines a monthly active user as an authenticated Pinterest user who visits its website, opens its mobile application or interacts with Pinterest through one of its browser or website extensions at least once during the 30-day period ending on the measurement date.
Unless stated otherwise, Pinterest reports monthly active users based on the number measured on the final day of the reporting period. Users of its Shuffles app are not included unless they independently meet Pinterest’s criteria for a monthly active user.
The 640 million figure should therefore be understood as an internally calculated measure of active Pinterest accounts under the company’s stated methodology. Pinterest acknowledges that measuring the use of online products across large global populations involves inherent challenges and that its estimates can change as its technology or methodology develops.
That distinction matters because monthly active user figures from different technology companies are not necessarily directly comparable. Platforms can use different definitions, measurement periods and methodologies.
Scale Does Not Remove Financial Trade-Offs
Pinterest’s expanding audience and rising revenue do not mean every financial measure improved during the quarter.
The company reported a GAAP net loss of $46.7 million in Q2 2026, compared with net income of $38.8 million a year earlier. At the same time, adjusted EBITDA, a non-GAAP measure used by Pinterest to assess operating performance, increased 24% to $311.3 million.
Those figures measure different aspects of the business and should not be treated as interchangeable. Pinterest’s adjusted EBITDA excludes several expenses and other items included in GAAP net income, including share-based compensation and certain other costs.
The contrast is a reminder that rapid user and revenue growth can coexist with different outcomes depending on which measure of profitability is being considered.
A Broader Global Platform
Pinterest’s rise to 640 million monthly active users reflects a sustained expansion rather than a single-quarter jump. The platform has added users across all of its geographic reporting regions, with the fastest growth coming from markets outside the U.S., Canada and Europe.
At the same time, the financial value of those users varies sharply by geography. North America remains by far Pinterest’s strongest market for revenue per user, while the Rest of World region provides the largest user base and the fastest user growth.
That combination defines Pinterest’s position in 2026. Its audience is larger and more international than ever, while the company’s ability to turn that expanding global reach into revenue continues to differ substantially from one market to another.
